Achiltibuie & the Summer Isles

You can approach Achiltibuie from either the A835 abut 10 miles north of Ullapool or via Inverkirkaig. The Inverkirkaig road from Lochinver is the more stunning route but the first seven or so miles seem to have less passing places on the little single track road than normal. For all this it is a beautiful route and I'm sure you will not be disappointed

Achiltibuie (Coigach) is a small quiet settlement with a local store, post office, hotel and the hydroponicum. You can get a bite to eat at the hotel or the hydroponicum (closed Nov to Easter)

You can't get much further along the road at this point so turn back and head off on the Reiff road (this is a circular road) - take the coastal route since on the way you will see one of the most stunning views you'll ever see - The Summer Isles. If the lighting is right you'll think you've won the lottery.

There is a view point on the right part way up a hill before Achnahaird.

Follow this road round

and take the road to the beach at Achnahaird; its a very short ride and you will be rewarded by a lovely walk to a wide-open beach and stunning views.

If you go back via the A835 you'll pass Stac Pollaidh (known as Stac Polly and is 2009ft high). There is a circular walk around Stac Polly if you have the time. There is a car park by the side of the road

There are boat trips to the Summer Isles from just outside Achiltibuie but they don't run all the time so you may just have to take a chance. If they are running it is around 10.30am and 2.15pm.  (except Sunday) Phone 01854 622200 (w) or 01854 622315 (h). This would surely be a fine thing to do on a nice day.
